Qualitative research is crucial when designing back office digital products for e-commerce companies because it provides deep insights into the complex needs and workflows of the users, typically employees and managers who interact with these systems daily. It allows designers to understand the nuances of their tasks, pain points, and preferences, ensuring the creation of more intuitive, efficient, and tailored solutions that can significantly enhance operational efficiency and user satisfaction within the e-commerce ecosystem.
At Samokat I orginised a 2 hours workshop for other back-office designers where we explored in details what happened on every step of discovery stage. I showed them how one could gather insights from stakeholders and users, prepare for and perform qualitative interviews, find key aspects and painpoints and formulate conclusions in the end.
